Graphite is one of the carbon allotropes that is used in making pencil tips due to its softness and black color. Graphite is a naturally occurring crystalline form of carbon, it has a very soft and oily texture and a crystalline state, and is the most stable type of carbon under standard conditions. Its atomic structure, six atoms are stacked in the form of layered hexagons with weak bonds. These layers can easily slide over each other. These atoms are bonded by covalent bonds and cannot form covalent bonds with carbon outside this layer, so a graphite layer is attached to the underlying layers through a weak bond bond.
