SDI Silt Density Index

SDI meter stands for: (Silt Density Index)

SDI meter is a filter clogging index or sludge measuring index. The measurement is sludge.

All suspended and insoluble water particles larger than 0.45 microns are measured with this index

.The best SDI number for entering the membranes of reverse osmosis device, (According to the suggestion of different membrane manufacturers) is less than 3.

If the SDI of water entering the membranes is greater than 5, in less than a few weeks the membranes will face severe clogging and reduced production and to fix Design problem, proper pre-treatment is recommended.

The sludge index requires between 3 to 5 frequent washes (up to once every 6 months) of the membranes, which ultimately reduces the life of the membranes.

Raw water SDI measurement is necessary to design a pre-treatment system.

The higher the raw water SDI, the more pre-treatment filtration steps should be considered.

SDI measurement after reverse osmosis pretreatment systems is essential for the design of RO reverse osmosis membranes .

In fact, the higher the SDI of water entering the reverse osmosis, the more likely they are to clog. SDI filter has 5 filters 0.45 microns
