Mono ammonium phosphate
Monoammonium phosphate (MAP) is a substance with the chemical formula NH4H2PO4. It is also known as monobasic ammonium phosphate and dihydrogen ammonium phosphate.
The main application of monoammonium phosphate (MAP) is as a fertilizer in agriculture. It has the appearance of white crystals or powder and has the highest phosphorus content among conventional solid fertilizers and is an excellent source of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) for high-yielding and high-quality crop production.
This substance is soluble in water and can dissolve quickly in wet soil.
Ammonium and phosphate ions are both very important in soil health when dissolved in water.
MAP fertilizer is acidic, making this fertilizer very useful for all types of soil with alkaline and neutral pH.
MAP has been used for many years as an effective fertilizer with good water solubility and rapid dissolution. In powder form, it is an important component of suspension fertilizers.
Its two molecular bases (ammonium and phosphate) are key minerals for healthy, sustainable plant growth – it helps the plant convert many nutrients within the plant into the "building blocks" of growth.
Growers apply seed MAP in concentrated strips below the soil surface near growing roots or in surface strips.
It can also be applied by spreading it on the field and mixing it with the topsoil by plowing.
