Trimethylol propane has three functions and compared to glycerin, it reduces the cost of the resin and improves its color. At the same time, it also increases the hardness and strength of the resin. Other polyhydric alcohols such as dipropylene glycol, trimethylol methane, ethylene, propylene and neopentyl glycol have been proposed for the use of oil-modified alkyds, but their commercial use is still very low compared to glycerin and pentaerythritol.
